Live campaigns thrive on public interaction. That’s why it’s so important for them to be welcoming and used to engage with people in a meaningful way. Data Vandals (in association with Canva) knew this all too well – taking that approach to a brand campaign that produced buzz, results, and a lot of great feedback!
The Promohire team knew just how to help. We provided a Piaggio Ape that would stop people in their tracks, ensuring this campaign would draw crowds across London.
Who are Data Vandals?
Data Vandals is a creative team that believes data collection should be fun for all. Since their inception in 2021, they’ve been dedicated to live engagement. Their ethos is to bring data visualisation to towns and cities – collecting data through fun, rather than another online form.
Data Vandals also wants to collaborate with artists and unify communities. How better to do that than through a funky brand activation on wheels?
What did Data Vandals want?
The goal was to create a mobile data kiosk in time for London Data Week. Promotional vehicle hire would be at the heart of this brand campaign, with a vibrant design that would encourage members of London’s community to speak with their team.
Guests would take part in a short, interactive survey where they could share their feelings on everything from Greggs sausage rolls to cycle lanes, tourists, and billionaires.
People would be handed stickers to place on a poster, placed near the Piaggio Ape kiosk. Data Vandals wanted to include facts about the city, along with vibrant artwork.
How did Promohire help?
Our role was to empower Data Vandals to do what it does best – and that’s engage with the community.
Armed with their decorative kiosk graphics, and a concept for how the vehicle should look, we got to work producing the vinyl wrap. Every element would be carefully placed, as the results would need to reflect the brand’s artistic values.
Standout features included the iconic dragons and a design for the back of the vehicle, visualising the top 20 languages spoken across London. Bright blue eyes turned the Piaggio Ape into a real character – making it more approachable for kids and families.
Our bespoke fabrication team crafted a lion-themed roof prop as an extra design element. This could be seen over the crowds and added a bit more humour to what was already a light-hearted event.
We also sent our logistics expert Paul to drive the vehicle between venues, ensuring it was well-cared for on its journey. See our logistics service to learn how we get promotional campaigns out on the road.
What was the result?
Data Vandals’ summer campaign saw a huge amount of engagement, with crowds from diverse communities coming out to share their data. It proved a fun way to gather information from groups of people who might not otherwise have had their say.
The three-wheeled kiosk travelled to six locations over two days, including King’s College London and Church Street Market in Westminster.
Data Vandals found the live campaign to be ‘extremely successful’, and they have a new appetite for vehicle-based projects.
Our driver Paul also got a special shoutout...
‘We wanted to pass along praise to our new friend Paul who drove our Piaggio Ape around London. Always on time, very helpful, funny, and resourceful!’
