6 Freshers' Week Campaigns That Got Student Marketing Right

Freshers’ Week is one of the busiest moments in the student marketing calendar. In just a few days, brands have the chance to get in front of thousands of new students to build awareness and shape long-term loyalty. But with so much on campus, only the best campaigns will stand out.

From student sampling campaigns to educational moments with a fun twist, here are six Fresher’s Week campaigns that made student marketing look effortless.

1. Monzo’s money goals moment

This lively activation put learning at the top of the agenda.

As a digital bank accessed through a smartphone app, Monzo is always looking for ways to engage with a young and ‘tech-savvy’ audience. And how better to do that than with a mobile display unit, blending prizes and financial planning under one roof?

Travelling to four campuses across the UK, this vibrant trailer included a 90’s library setup with LED lighting where students could grab a book and learn more at the info stand. To top it off, a spin-to-win added a dash of fun to this Freshers’ Week campaign.

2. Jollibee’s 3-way sandwich setup

As with all student sampling campaigns, it’s about getting the setup right. For Jollibee, it meant coming to Freshers’ Week with a student marketing experience that simply couldn’t be ignored.

Their promotional vehicle served as a delicious sampling hub, where hungry students could turn up to enjoy a spicy chicken sandwich, boasting three layers of heat! The VW Camper was custom-built with a pop-top roof and push-out counter – transforming a vintage vehicle into a mobile kitchen.

3. Hollister’s 'shop and sip' roadshow

The renowned fashion brand delivered a ‘feel good’ matcha moment.

Everyone loves a great-tasting freebie, and students are no exception! Hollister knew this all too well, and delivered a September campaign from Manchester to Leeds. Whether parked up on campus or on the high street, this sky blue trailer commanded everyone line up for a refreshing matcha on the house.

This was a big one for user-generated content, with plenty of posts online to show the experience at its best. Part of the challenge was getting everything just so from launch to closing time – but Promohire was on the case.

4. LookFantastic x Student Beans

This Freshers’ Week activation made beauty the heart of the experience.

A big group of university students attend the Lookfantastic and Studentbean Airstream as part of a Freshers Week marketing campaign.

LookFantastic, together with discount brand Student Beans, travelled to various pop-up locations. They engaged with students with a hands-on introduction to LookFantastic’s cosmetic range – with brand ambassadors guiding them on board a fully custom vintage Airstream.

Here, they could explore the latest products, then take a seat at the makeup station for a live makeover from expert makeup artists.

Everything inside the vehicle, from the illuminated makeover space to the curated product displays, was designed to fully immerse guests in the LookFantastic world. Blending high footfall with a personalised experience, it’s the perfect example of a student marketing campaign done right.

5. Pho’s campus sampling takeover

Turning the start of uni into a full-on street food experience.

Pho took their Vietnamese cuisine on the road using a 7-metre gullwing Airstream, which was fully wrapped and finished with a signature Pho bowl mounted on the roof.

The side opening formed a natural service counter, allowing the team to give many students their very first taste of Vietnamese street food. Inside, the setup was designed for efficiency and flow, with chiller fridges, twin sinks, and a clean catering layout to keep the whole space hygienic.
